Well, hello! And Happy New Year to you all!
Seems appropriate that I should check in and write a little something on the first day of 2015 since one of my promises to myself (yes, I suppose you could say it's a resolution) is to write more often and consistently.
No hang over today. I actually only shared one bottle of bubbles and had a glass of wine last night. Am I getting older, and presumably wiser, or was I just too lazy to open another bottle of wine? Maybe some combination of both! Maybe I just didn't want to start 2015 feeling hung over and groggy.
It's not as if I have grand plans for today...no big adventure planned or project to get going on. I already did the ONE thing I set out to do - watch the Rose Parade. Did you know that HGTV shows it without commercial interruption? me neither! At least not until today. Hopefully I will remember it next year!
I LOVE the Rose Parade! I love seeing the exquisitely created floats - all made with organic materials, mainly flowers and seeds and other flora and fauna. The imagination and technicality that must work cohesively to create these floats is amazing. I also get excited by the various equestrian groups and riders. I love to see Hawai'i represented by the Pa'u riders.
And then there are the bands. Have you ever marched in a parade with a band? I have. It's a big deal! It requires a lot of practicing and precision and camaraderie. Some of the bands travel from the other side of the US. One band today came from Maui - that's over 2000 miles! Last year (or maybe it was the year before....getting older, remember?) I actually knew one of the kids in the marching band from a high school in Reno! McQueen's High School band! Hi Lane! That was cool! The worse part about being part of the marching band is if you follow too closely behind an equestrian group...watch out for the horse shit!
My dear husband slept right through the bulk of the parade! Fine with me...he 'd just grumble through it like I grumble through some of his sports viewing. I doubt we will ever travel to Pasadena to watch it live, but it would be fun to see it in person one day. Anyone? Want to do New Year's eve/day in SoCal with me?! Think about it. We have several more months to plan it!
Well, I have today off work, so there are still many more hours left in my day to do something (or nothing, I haven't decided yet!) with. Maybe I will go start a new painting! Have a great day! Make it fabulous!
